Weekly Wellness Minutes – Definiteness of Purpose

Napolean Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich brought the principles of success to the world with his writings. These success principles apply equally to any endeavor – including the pursuit of wellness.

Hill wrote, “Don’t be like a ship at sea without a rudder, powerless and directionless. Decide what you want, find out how to get it, and then take daily action toward achieving your goal. You will get exactly and only what you ask for. Make up your mind what it is you want, and then start today to go after it! Do it now!”

Successful people move on their own initiative, and know where they are going before they start.

When we pursue wellness, it is essential that we know where we are headed and how we are going to get there.

For example, if our goal is to lose weight, we must know exactly what we want to accomplish and how we intend to accomplish it before we get started. The person who begins a diet with the goal of simply losing weight and with no plan on how they will do it is destined to failure.

Without knowing in advance how much weight you intend to lose, what eating plan you will follow, how often and where you will exercise, when you will start and, equally important, when you intend to be where you want to be, the task becomes more of a wish than a goal. And, no, in spite of what Jimmeny Cricket says, wishes do not always come true. But, goal setters are goal achievers.

When you are able to focus on your task with laser-like intensity, without the distraction of making a new plan day by day, many of the barriers that stop most people in their tracks simply vanish.

When you don’t have time to look for distractions, they are much harder to find.

Whether it’s a new diet, exercise program, health regimen, or self improvement program, make up your mind about what you want to get from the effort, how you are going to get it, and when the result will be realized and then DO IT NOW!
